I feel so: happy
The good news is that I re-installed the Pro Tools 8 update today and nearly everything is working just fine. No need to reinstall any of my other effects, instruments or other plug-ins. Only issue is that the authorizations for two plug-ins (that come bundled with ProTools, oddly enough) have gone missing, but that won't be an issue. Yay, I have the rest of my weekend back!
The gory details: I became suspicious when a) my earlier install of the PT software listed none of the effects that are installed as part of PT, b) my computer was having a devil of a time reading the dual format (Mac/PC) install DVD, and c) the installer was saying that QuickTime wasn't detected on my system (even though I have the latest version installed). Reinstalling didn't make a difference, and ultimately I couldn't even read the DVD. Weird. Anyway, I was able to download the installer last night off of Digidesign's website, and ran it from my hard disk with great success. Yay! So I guess it was either a bad media problem, or there was a software glitch that they fixed and posted online. Either way, it works like a charm. |
